Becky's Corner
Welcome to my little corner of Cravenhaven.
You're in the right place to learn a little more about me and what I am up to at the moment.
Those that know me will know that recently I have been getting in to running on a regular basis.
I was told that I had impaired fasting glycaemia over a year ago. I was advised to follow a healthy diet, lose weight and keep active to help myself prevent diabetes. This coupled with the history of diabetes in my family has made me realise that I am at increased risk of developing diabetes and how important it is to lead a healthy lifestyle and be aware of the condition.
I am pleased to say that since then I have lost weight and maintained a more active lifestyle, and my glucose levels have lowered. A key point for me was training for and taking part in the 5k Race for Life in July 2007. I followed this up with a greater challenge this year, and took part in the British 10k London Run on 6th July 2008. I completed the 10k through central London in 63 minutes, and raised £370.50 for Diabetes UK.
Since then I have decided to try to keep up the running and not let my hard work and training go to waste. I am intending to take part in the Dartmoor Vale 10k in October 2008 and my goal is to break the hour barrier!
On a less active theme, since my big read of 2007, I have been keeping up the reading and try to always actively have a book on-the-go. I have joined the library, read a greater variety this year and find that I am starting to love it again.
Since the trip to Florida I have built on my love of photography and have started scrapbooking, which is really popular in the USA. It is such a lovely way to keep and display both photos and mementos - but we may need a bigger house and more shelving before too long! I have also started using a negative scanner in order to digitise the big box full of negatives that we seem to have accumulated over the years. Although time consuming, it is bringing back fond memories and is a much more practical way of storing and sharing photographs.
