About Us

David was born in London on 14th May 1981. A son to parents Martin and Vella, and a big brother to his ‘sweet’ little sister Ali. David is a gentle giant, but is also know affectionately as ‘bear’ to some of his friends. The origins of this nickname are not to be disclosed unless you are one of the aforementioned friends!

After a brief childhood in Dorchester, and besides living in Virginia for about 3 years, he has lived most of his life in Plymouth. He attended Buckfast Abbey School where he learnt to whittle with the monks. He then went on to his GCSEs and A-levels at Devonport High School of Boys. Oh happy days. He moved up the A38 in September 1999 to Exeter University where he completed an undergraduate degree in Mathematics in 2002, and a Masters in Autonomous Systems in 2004.

After graduation, he started working at Friends Provident and has not been able to escape yet. Instead he has worked his way up through the ranks to become a Consultant in the Mortgage Endowment Complaints team, and at the start of 2007 moved to a bigger and better role as a Java Developer in the IT department.

Rebecca (Becky) was born in Truro, Cornwall on 3rd July 1981. She likes to think she was a well-behaved and model daughter (well, most of the time) for her parents Roger and Rose Heayn, and a delightful little sister to her brothers Andrew and Stephen.

After attending Archbishop Benson Primary School, she went on to Penair School where she took her GSCEs. Following this she attended Truro College (back in the days when it was relatively small) to study for her A-Levels. In September 1999 she ‘crossed the border’ into Devon, to go to the University of Exeter and has lived in Exeter since. She completed her undergraduate degree in Law and Society in 2002, and a Masters in Medicine, Occupation and Health in Historical Perspective in 2004.

After working in pensions at Friends Provident, and for Exeter City Council in Planning Services, she joined Exeter Primary Care NHS Trust (now Devon PCT) as Research Management and Governance Co-ordinator in April 2005.

David and Becky met in October 1999 at Exeter University in Brendon House, the Birks Halls. They quickly realised that they had a lot in common and got on like a proverbial house on fire. Their friendship grew into a relationship (causing some speculation among the other residents of the floor in halls – were they or weren’t they?) and they have been inseparable since.

On 6th November 2004 (after having been together for 5 years) David proposed to Becky on a little bridge over a stream in Sticklepath. Whether it was simply to stop her complaining about getting mud on her new trousers remains to be seen, although the fact that David produced a ring implies that he had given it serious consideration and had planned it (yes, David actually planned something without Becky!)

After months of planning and preparation (and after surviving stag and hen weekends in Edinburgh and at Ashcombe respectively), they married on 25th February 2006 at St Paul’s Church in Truro. This was followed by a reception at the Falmouth Beach Hotel. They were delighted that their day went so perfectly and would like to thank all their friends and family who were able to share the occasion with them. Following the wedding they went on honeymoon to California for a fantastic 2 weeks, seeing the sights of Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Diego (including Universal Studios, Disneyland, SeaWorld and San Diego Zoo).

Since the wedding we have been house hunting and have unfortunately tried and failed to purchase our first house on more than one occasion. Despite a string of bad luck we are trying to remain positive and are now saving up with a view to looking again in a year or so. We'll get there in the end!
